Walton Athletics Club’s Sam Mace won a whopping four gold medals at the Surrey  Championships as five other Stompond Lane heroes claimed golden doubles.
 

The 14-year-old threw a new championship best 40.72 metres to win the U15 boys discus, as well as 11.55m to win the shot, 42.82m to triumph in the hammer and 39.26m to win the javelin.
 

Shaw’s sister Sophie set a championship record to win the U17 girls hammer with an effort of 49.76m and threw 42.32 to win the discus, but finished second in the shot.
 

Hugo Fleming secured an U20 men’s middle distance double clocking four minutes 0.9 seconds to win the 1,500m at Kingsmeadow on Saturday, before claiming 800m gold in 1:54.68 the following day.
 

Carla Letheby (senior women discus and javelin),  Sawa Yamakawa (U15 boys long jump, 80m hurdles) and Jasmine de la Touche (U13 girls discus and javelin) also secured golden doubles.
 

Joanne Locker may have won the senior women’s 3,000m  on Sunday, but was forced to concede age might be catching up with her.
 

Officials merged the 38-year-old’s race with the U20 women and U17 girls events at the weekend, which saw Locker beaten into third place by her younger rivals.
 

U20s winner Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers’ Pheobe Law, 17, won 9:51.79  ahead of 15-year-old U17s champion Pippa Monk (10:28.49) with world masters 3,000m bronze medalist Locker further back in 10:36.94.
