One of Herne Hill Harriers brightest hopes for the future has joined Bromley & Blackheath AC.

Katy-Ann McDonald has followed coach Phil Kissi to the south-east London club after dominating the U15s middle distance scene in the black and red of Herne Hill.

Under Kissi, the Putney High School pupil has become the UK's fastest girl over 1,500m (four minutes 33.4 seconds) in her age group, and she broke 2:10 over 800m for the first time on Monday, clocking 2:09.70 at the Mile End Open.

Last season, McDonald won the English Schools Championship 800m title, took top spot in the cross-country English National Championships and was also part of Herne Hill's victorious ERRA National Young Athletics relay team.

Kissi said: "I have a long term plan for Katy-Ann that fits in with the direction we are going in. Leaving Herne Hill was an amicable decision as her athletics is moving in a different direction."

He added: "'We are not interested in times, just running against opposition, as this is still a learning period for my young athlete.

"But when you have an athlete who has got so much talent, heart and guts, good performances will come."
