Latest Hercules Wimbledon news: Virgin London Marathon preview
Husband and wife marathon running duo David and Claire Grima head a dozen-strong Hercules Wimbledon contingent running in Sunday's Virgin Money London Marathon from Blackheath to The Mall.
Past holders of the Guinness World record for the fastest aggregate time by a married couple in a marathon, the Grimas will be racing in the London race together for the fourth time.
David posted his best time last year when he clocked two hours 48 minutes 45 seconds to Claire's 2.49:19, although, mother of two, Claire went 10 seconds faster in 2011.
She missed the 2010 and 2012 races to have sons Luca and Jasper.
Running the marathon for the fifth time will be Hercules Wimbledon chairman Dave Clarke.
Now 56, Clarke was an outstanding runner in his younger days winning the English national senior men's cross-country title three times in the 1980s and winning the Stockholm marathon in 1989 in 2.13:34.
He returned to marathon racing in 2008 to accompany his wife Fran in the London race but will be running solo in the event for the first time this year and is aiming to beat the three hour barrier.
He clocked 2.52:11 last year and has a best London time of 2.45:45 in 2010.
Dennis Williams, who has run in every London race since its inauguration in 1981 with one exception when injury forced him to drop out, will, at 68, be the oldest Hercules Wimbledon runner in Sunday's race.
Over 45 veteran Tom Cheetham will be running in his 50th marathon on Sunday when he takes to the London roads for the 12th time.
Siblings Zoe and Daniel Illis will be among a small Hercules Wimbledon squad competing in the Virgin Money Giving London mini marathon over the last three miles of the main course from Old Billingsgate to The Mall.
