Morden lightweight boxer Craig Whyatt could clinch a title shot in front of the TV cameras tonight.

Fight fans will be tuning into Eurosport to watch promoter Mickey Helliet’s show at the Camden Centre – and Whyatt has a make-or-break fight on the bill.

A controversial points defeat at the end of January to Kristian Laight was Whyatt’s first in six professional bouts, and now he needs to get back to winning ways against an opponent as yet unconfirmed.

Whyatt, who also makes the step up to six rounds, said: “I didn’t understand that at all. It was a strange decision.

“Everyone seemed to think I won every round. It really got to me, but I’ve just to put that behind me and move forward.”

Whyatt said: “The plan is for me to win this fight, then go for a title. I don’t want to look too far ahead. I just want to concentrate on this fight.”

Helliet has used his connections to get Whyatt world-class sparring in the build up to the seventh fight of his professional career.

Whyatt last week headed to Battersea to spar Carl Frampton, currently on the brink of fighting for world super-bantamweight honours.

Whyatt said: "Carl is absolute class. There are loads of little things he does that make him special and I've tried to add it to my boxing.

"It's great to mix with people like that to see what it takes to reach that level. Carl is so strong for his size, sharp and smart. He is definitely a future world champion."

Whyatt has also invited a former world champion to his next fight.

Injury forced ex-IBF middleweight champion Darren Barker to hang up his gloves earlier this year and Whyatt is pals with him.

Both support Chelsea, and Whyatt said: "Darren has helped me get sparring and done a lot for me. It would be great to see him there."

In the top-of-the-bill fight at Camden, Elliott Matthews puts his Southern Area middleweight title on the line against Diego Burton.
