Croydon Harrier James Dasaolu could be forced to miss next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships after suffering a thigh strain injury.
The 26-year-old Croydon Harrier was competing in the 60m final at last weekend's National Indoor Arena, in Birmingham.
Dasaolu, who earlier posted a world leading 6.47secs in his semi-final heat, pulled up clutching his left leg immediately after crossing the line first in 6.50secs.
Jamaica’s Nesta Carter followed in 6.53 ahead of Kim Collins (6.55) and Dwain Chambers who was fourth in 6.56.
“My left leg felt tight at about 40-50m,” said Dasaolu, who last weekend successfully defended his UK indoor title.
“I think it’s cramp, but I’ll go and see the doctors and see what they say.”
This is obviously a real major setback for the top-form Dasaolu who is undoubtedly a real medal contender for the World Indoors which will be held in the Polish seaside resort of Sopot.
