Jonathan Parr is tired of defending.

Well, not exactly, but speaking to the Norwegian left-back after his Crystal Palace side lost to Arsenal thanks to two second half strikes from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it was clear that a break from defensive duties at times would have been welcomed against the table toppers from north London.

“We don’t want to just defend,” said the 25-year-old. “We had a lot of counter attacks today and a lot of great opportunities but unfortunately we couldn’t take them.

“We were sloppy and gave the ball away too easily which made it even more difficult for us, so we had to defend even more.

“We’ve shown that we’re good defensively lately and, of course, we can take some good parts away from the game but we have to improve.

"You know when you come to the Emirates to play Arsenal you’re not going to get the ball a lot so we just have to forget this game and focus on the next game and keep picking up points.”

The next game is against West Bromwich Albion today and it is a match which could see four new faces make an appearance at Selhurst Park with the arrivals of Joe Ledley, Wayne Hennessey, Scott Dann and Tom Ince on transfer deadline day already having an effect.

“I am looking forward to seeing what they can do,” said Parr.

“It’s going to create more energy in the team and everyone has to be on their toes and do well to stay in the team. The competition will be better and I think that will be good for us.

“We know that if we do our best we are good enough to win against every team and that will be the same against West Brom - we are playing at home and really want to get three points.”
