Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club's Matt Sharp bounced back from a bout of flu to head home a field of more than 200 runners in the Dulwich parkrun on Saturday.

He crossed the finishing line in 16 minutes 12 seconds in his first parkrun of 2014, but was 21 seconds outside his best time for the Dulwich event.

Sharp, 34, a member of Hercules Wimbledon's Surrey title-winning cross-country team, posted his seventh win in 11 appearances at Dulwich.

He posted the second best age-graded performance of the day and also headed home a Hercules Wimbledon one-two as his clubmate, fellow Surrey winning team member and training partner Rob Tuer, took second spot in 16:38, just three seconds outside his best time for the event.

Sharp and Tuer opted to run in Dulwich rather than the East Surrey cross-country relays staged on a waterlogged Wimbledon Common, where several runners took tumbles in the slippery, muddy, going.

Fastest member of the Hercules Wimbledon team which finished in third spot was Sean Crummy, who ran the opening leg in 10:54.

Over-50 veteran Pete Clarke clocked 11:07, with Andrew Davies (12:00) and Peter Collins (13:09), who ran in the Wimbledon Common parkrun earlier in the day, completing the team.

Collins was fourth out of 284 parkrun competitors in 19:26, while Hercules Wimbledon's Lisa Thomas, who was first woman to finish the parkrun in 21:06, also turned out in the East Surrey League event where she clocked 12:58 for the C team.

Over-50 veteran Charles Hampden-Smith clocked 12:16 in the second leg for the C team, and also competed earlier in the Wimbledon Common parkrun where he was 25th in 21:33. He was third in the over-50 age category.

Jake Blayney (12:01) was the fastest member of the Hercules Wimbledon young athletes team which finished seventh in the East Surrey League event.

Caspar Parsons was seventh in the U13 1.9 miles race in 13:10.

Hercules Wimbledon's Medena Knespl broke the club women's five miles road running record when she finished 64th out of more than 1,750 runners in the Super Sunday Run for Cancer event in Boston, USA.

Her time of 30:16 shaved there seconds off the old record set by international race walker Estle Viljoen at Wimbledon Park on April 1999.

Also on the road, Tom Cheetham was sixth in the Nonsuch Park 10km road race in 38:18 with Tom Morris second in the over-55 veteran category in the Mornington Chasers 10km road race in Regents Park in 45:06.

Andrew Blake was 194th out of 1,752 finishers in the Watford half-marathon in 1.28:38.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
