Epsom Men returned to winning ways in Surrey/Hants Regional Division One with a 5-2 thumping of Hamble.

Epsom took control of the game from the fifth minute, when centre-half Oli Hildrey fired home a deflected short-corner dragflick.

Soon after, Scott Barton’s jinking run down the right pressured an own-goal that made it 2-0 after 10 minutes.

From that point on, Epsom took a tight hold on possession and engineered several chances to put the game out of sight, with Hamble’s keeper was regularly called into action from open play and set pieces.

Hamble showed great resilience to hang on and right on half time they cut the deficit back to 2-1 with a deflected short corner strike creeping in.

The visitors clearly had the potential to strike again and it took a classy solo effort from Steve Turnbull to settle the nerves swirling around Therfield early in the second half.

Epsom started to relax and control proceedings and Alex Pizzey fortuitously deflected home Scott Barton’s shot for 4-1, before Paul Atkinson lifted home a short corner rebound for 5-1.

Hamble grabbed a late consolation goal, but it did not dent a strong all round performance from Epsom.

They next travel to Chichester 2s - who share mid-table with Epsom.
