A former Crystal Palace and England legend is to appear in court next month charged with actual bodily harm.

Kenny Sansom, of Bromley, who played for Crystal Palace, Arsenal and England, appeared before Bromley Magistrates on November 23 charged with ABH.

Police were called on November 22 after they received an allegation of an incident involving Mr Sansom and a woman.

He was arrested and subsequently charged.

The 55-year-old last year revealed he had been battling alcoholism and at one point was sleeping homeless on the streets.

Mr Sansom, who is heralded as one of Crystal Palace’s finest youth players, made more than 172 appearances for the Eagles.

He made his debut when he was 16 and was part of the famous team of the 80s which topped the old first division at the start of the 1979 season.

Since the former left back revealed his drink problems he has been doing some work at Crystal Palace, helping to host VIP nights and speak to guests on match days.

Mr Sansom, who made 86 England caps and played in two World Cups, also received help from the Professional Footballers’ Association.
