Richmond & Twickenham Times sports editor Stuart Amos takes a look back at the stories the made the headlines in 2013.
January: London Scottish scrum half Jamie Stevenson scored a hat-trick in his side’s 32-0 British & Irish Cup win over Gala. Stevenson’s exploits would see him land a Scotland A call up to face England Saxons.
February: Hampton & Richmond Borough’s Charlie Moone scored his side’s second goal in a 3-3 draw with Wingate & Finchley and paid tribute to former Beavers bar manager Mark Smith, who died of leukaemia in January.
March: Harlequins added the LV= Cup to their trophy cabinet after beating Sale Sharks 32-14 in the final at Sixways. It came the same weekend club captain Chris Robshaw endured Six Nations grand slam heartache in Wales.
April & May: Brentford missed out on automatic League One promotion after a dramatic final day 1-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers at Griffin Park. The Bees went on to get past Swindon Town in play-off semi-finals, but a Harlee Dean header - Brentford's first goal at Wembley - was not enough as the Bees lost 2-1 to Yeovil Town in the final.
June: Thalia Poaros and Sophie Johnson won gold and bronze respectively as Teddington Swimming Club claimed a club record of 12 medals at the London Regional Swimming Championships.
