Two football players accused of match fixing have been dismissed from their club.

Whitehawk FC duo Michael Boateng and Hakeem Adelakun, both 22, from Croydon, were charged with conspiracy to defraud.

Adelakun is a former Crystal Palace youth team player and was a first team regular for Carshalton Athletic last season.

Boateng is a former Sutton United player who played 29 times for the Us. He is also a former Crystal Palace youth team player and played for Carshalton Athletic.

After holding an emergency board meeting today Whitehawk FC, a non-league club in Brighton, have dismissed the two players with immediate effect for bringing the club into disrepute.

The club were aware that Boateng and Adelakun were being investigated and suspended them pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Club director Mark Turner said: “The Board are disappointed by these allegations and have taken steps to protect the Club.”

He added that the board, club, players and staff were unaware of the actions of the two players.

The men have been bailed to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on December 11.

They are the third and fourth people to be charged in connection with the National Crime Agency’s investigation into an alleged international illegal betting syndicate.

Chann Sankaran and Krishna Sanjey Ganeshan were charged on November 28 and are currently remanded in custody.

The NCA’s investigation continues.
