Tommy Kavanagh has left Sutton United after being left out of the 2-1 win over Eastleigh on Saturday.

The Blue Square South victory marked the debuts of Richard Pacquette, Dean Sinclair and James Folkes, while Kavanagh – who has made more than 100 United appearances – was left on the bench.

Kavanagh joins recent departees Craig Watkins and Steven Old, while boss Paul Doswell has brought in centre back Tom Jordan from Eastleigh.

Doswell said: “Tommy was disappointed not to play on Saturday and so we had a chat about it and decided it may be better for him to go elsewhere for his football.

“But he goes with our blessing, he has been a great servant to this club, and we’re currently helping him find a new challenge.”

He added: “Tom has come to us for not a lot of money which is vital to the club’s survival. In fact Richard, Dean, James and Tom are on less money as a quartet than Craig, Steven and Tom.”

A Sam Rents penalty and Craig Dundas strike secured all the points from United’s first League game since January 5 – they go to AFC Hornchurch this weekend.

Doswell said: “It was important to start again with a win and great to finally be playing again.

“James was the stand-out player. He gives us width and can cross the ball with his left and right foot. He is prepared to run at people and has a positive approach.”

United travel to AFC Hornchurch this weekend.
