The Active Wandsworth Sports Awards ceremony takes place tomorrow night (Thursday) with a wide range of titles up for grabs.
Top of the tree is the sports person of the year and the quality of the nominations is testimony to the huge success enjoyed by Wandsworth’s sports stars in 2012.
Among the nominees are Aaron McKibbin, 21, who won table tennis bronze at the London 2012 Paralympics in the team event.
Isabella Hindley has been nominated after being named 2011-12 London Region ASA swimmer of the year in a 12 months where the 16-year-old won an amazing 34 gold medals at regional and county competitions.
From the world of BMX racing, Quillion Isidore has been nominated after remaining undefeated in the British BMX Series junior men’s class, and winning the U16s title at the UCI World Championships in Birmingham.
Sixteen-year-old Quillion also dedicates a lot of his free time to training the next generation of BMX racers.
Aaron Mahoney-Jones announced himself on the judo scene by returning from his first international judo competition with a bronze medal – the Ernest Bevin College pupil triumphed at the Venray International in Holland.
Other awards include voluntary services to sport and physical acitivity and the Mayor’s award, which recognises projects that have increased opportunities for disabled athletes.
