Dulwich Hamlet manager Gavin Rose says the club does not have the financial resources to bring in fresh players for the final push to promotion from Ryman League Division One South.

And the coffers were not swelled on Saturday when the top of the table clash against Maidstone United was called off 90 minutes before kick-off – despite the best efforts of fans and staff who spent the morning clearing the Champion Hill pitch of snow.

Hamlet, unbeaten in all competitions since the beginning of November, are second in the table on goal difference and can boast a frontline that is raining goals with Daniel Carr (14) and Erhun Oztumer (17) leading the way.

And while Rose says would like to recruit new faces, he remains satisfied with his current squad and the promise coming through the club’s ranks.

“There are players I’d love to bring in but unfortunately we do not have the finances to go out and get them, so we work within our remit,” he said.

“We have some very fine players coming through the academy, such as Xavier Vidal - he’s only 17 or 18 years’ old, but is the youth team captain and full of promise.

He added: “It is reflective of the academy that myself and Junior [Kadi] set up more than 11 years’ ago.

“We don’t have the money to bring in players, but if we work well with the lads in the academy they come to us as ready-made players.

“They are young but they know how to play at our level and what we expect from them.

"They are hungry to impress and it gives us an advantage over other teams who may not have that resource to tap into.”
