Kingstonian keeper Rob Tolfrey would love to cap his fourth season at Kingsmeadow with promotion to the Blue Square South.

The 25-year-old, below, made his 150th appearance for the club in the New Year’s Day 0-0 draw with Hampton & Richmond Borough and kept a second successive clean sheet in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wealdstone.

It avenged a 5-2 defeat to the same team in October and cemented Kingstonian’s place in the Ryman Premier League top five.

And that is where former Carshalton Boys School student Tolfrey, who had spells with Horsham and Whyteleafe earlier in his career, wants Ks to stay.

“I’d love nothing more than to get promoted with Ks,” he said.

“It is all about consistency. It is no good individuals playing well one week and then poorly the next.

“If everyone can find the right level of consistency then there is no reason why our squad cannot get us into the play-offs.

“We have the players who can score the goals,  it is not just down to one individual.

“If we can put a run of good results  together – maybe 10 games with only one or two blips – we’ll be in a good position to push on.”

Kingstonian’s defensive record has long been a thorn in boss Alan Dowson's side, which has seen Ks concede 31 goals in 19 league games this season.

The Kingmeadow chief has used 13 defenders in his squad this term in a bid to rectify the problem and the back four – who have let in more than three goals in a match on four occasions this season – have been relatively miserly in recent weeks.

And Croydon-born Tolfrey, who has kept four cleansheets in the league thus far, is hoping that can continue having shut out familiar foe Wealdstone striker Richard Jolly at the weekend.

“We’ve conceded a lot of goals against Wealdstone over the years and Richard always seems to score against me, so it was nice to keep a clean sheet,” he added.

“There have been a lot of changes to the defence this season. It can be difficult trying to understand everyone’s attributes and abilities.

“But you just have to be selfish and make sure you do your job properly.

“We have conceded three or four goals in a game too many times this season and that has had to change.

“We are reaping the rewards of some hard work, so long may that continue.”

Tolfrey was between the sticks when Ks reached the Ryman Premier League play-off final in 2010 only to lose 2-0  to Boreham Wood.

“We have a stronger squad now. I’d love to get out of this league with Ks,” he added.
