Ollie Lindsay-Hague may be a long way down the Quins full back pecking order, but he will not be defeated in his bid to break in to top flight rugby.
The 22-year-old, who has made only three appearances in the first team this season, played a starring role in Monday’s Aviva A League final win over Saracens.
The former Millfield School student’s performance drew admiring glances from director of rugby Conor O’Shea and the watching Quins first team squad.
Lindsay-Hague is behind England internationals Mike Brown and Ugo Monye in selection, while Tom Williams and Sam Smith would also have something to say if they were to get the nod ahead of him.
And the England sevens international, who has had successful loan spells with Esher and Rosslyn Park, admitted he may have to look elsewhere to get his chance.
“I’m stuck behind three great players Tom Williams, Mike Brown and people like Sam Smith and Ugo Monye as well,” he said.
“I’ll sit down with the coach and see what we can do and what is best.
“I just want some game time really to be honest. Even if that means going out on loan, then I am happy to do that.”
Lindsay-Hague is best known for his slippery running, but in shrugging off Saracens number eight Jono Ross on Monday night, showed he is capable of punching above his weight.
“I’ve been working on my strength all last year. I’m small but I think I’ve got a lot stronger, “ he added.
“I showed that against one of the most physical teams in the Premiership they’ve got such strength in depth and I think I proved my strength.”
And his efforts have not been lost on his team-mates, least of all Ben Botica.
“The boys were phenomenal. The forwards dominated, gave us backs quick ball and freed up Ollie to roam free,” said the 24-year-old Kiwi.
“He is lightning. He only weighs about 40kgs or something silly. He is very light, but he can be a feisty one.
“He gets involved in one or two fights in training, so he likes to put it about a bit.”
