Despite making his first Heineken Cup start in Harlequins' last outing, Will Collier acknowledges he faces a waiting game to break into the Aviva Premiership champions' starting line-up on a regular basis, writes Paul Smith.

The young prop, a graduate of the Quins academy, signed his first senior contract in the summer and has featured mainly as a replacement this term.

But after helping the club's A-league side to the title with a win over Saracens Storm on Monday, Collier admits he craves more first-team action.

However, with more experienced campaigners in front of him such as Samoan James Johnston, he knows he must be patient.

"It has been great for me so far this season and I have just been biding my time, I am enjoying it," said the 21-year-old.

"JJ (Johnston) has done brilliantly at tight-head and there is big competition for places.

"The LV= Cup has been good for me and I have had some great first-team experience in that competition and I have had a few good starts in environments like Northampton Saints' Franklin's Gardens.

"Long-term I want to make an impact in the Aviva Premiership for the first team. I got my first Heineken Cup start at the weekend and hopefully I can kick on from that."

That start came against Zebre, as Quins picked up a 53-5 victory with Collier featuring for 58 minutes.

On Saturday, the Aviva Premiership leaders travel to face third-placed Saints, with Collier expecting to be replaced in the starting XV.

But whatever his role the England under-20 Junior World Cup finalist is keen to take in as much experience as possible.

"We are such a close-knit group and we don't let anything from outside the club get into us," he said.

"I know I can learn from the more experienced guys and I am doing that. I need to bide my time and be patient.

"I know I can't be too frustrated if I don't start matches. The club has got some big games coming up and everyone is really looking forward to it."
