Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson insisted his men have shown they have the character to get on another unbeaten run starting in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Ks lost 1-0 to Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, but bounced back to lead at Ryman Premier League play-off rivals Whitehawk 2-0 on Tuesday before the game was abandoned with 14 minutes left on the clock.

And the Kingsmeadow chief, whose side had been unbeaten in four league and cup games prior to Saturday’s defeat, warned Ryman Division One North Brentwood Town to expect more of the same this weekend.

“Sometimes you get games like the Wingate defeat where you do everything but score and the lads showed unbelieveable character to bounce back with a magnificent performance like that,” he said after Tuesday’s abandonment.

“Brentwood are one of the best team’s I’ve seen this season and I have watched a lot of games.  They will be in the top two or three in their league at the end of the season.

“We should win the game, but it won’t be easy.

“There are no outstanding teams in our league, but there are no rubbish sides either so little runs of form are key and no results are a surprise really.

“We’ve had a good run and there is no reason why we can’t get on another one because we have shown we have the ability to do it.”

Ks have injury concerns over defender Tom Bird, pictured left, ahead of the weekend clash, where a win would secure the club £4,000 in prize money and a possible first round proper clash with former Football League sides Luton Town or Darlington.

“Tom has done his groin and with him having had a hernia problem before you always fear the worst,” added Dowson.

“It could be a bad one. Fingers crossed it is just a strain and he’ll be back in a couple of weeks, because he has come back to us and done well.

“We’d love to get through this weekend. It is an exciting opportunity and a tie with a big non-league club like a Luton Town or a Sutton United would be great for us.”
