Ugo Monye has had a good week after being recalled by England and the Harlequins winger is looking to round it off with a win at London Irish.

Quins had a superb start to the season with four wins on the bounce, scoring 141 points in the process, although they stuttered ahead of the European break with defeats to Saracens and Exeter Chiefs.

But after defeating Biarritz Olympique at home and overcoming Connacht 30-22 in Ireland on Saturday – thanks largely to a Danny Care brace – in the Heineken Cup, the reigning Premiership champions look back on form ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Madejski stadium.

And with the league so tight at this early stage in the season – just 12 points separate top club Northampton Saints and 10th-placed London Welsh – Monye has warned his team-mates to avoid any more slip-ups.

“We are a confident team,  but we’ve had stark reminders against Saracens and Exeter that if we aren’t on top of our game we can get beaten,” he said.

“We are excited. The last two weeks have given us a lot of confidence, but we are certainly focused on what will be a tough game.

“The Premiership games probably finished on a bit of a sour note against Exeter but it was good to get back into the swing of things in Europe and hopefully we can put a few things right in the Premiership as well now.”

Monye has had a fine start to his Aviva Premiership campaign and sits joint top of the try scoring league alongside Matt Jess and Tom Varndell with four tries apiece.

And after being named in Stuart Lancaster’s 32-man squad for the autumn internationals against Fiji, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand along with five other  Quins – Chris Robshaw, Jordan  Turner-Hall, Mike Brown and Danny Care – the former British and Irish Lion is looking to build on a good start to his season.

“I’ve been happy with my form, my scoring and my involvement within the game,” he added.

“I feel I have a lot more to offer and will work on that week on week, but it’s been a real good start and consistent start.

“Experience has become a big part of my game, I’ve played a lot of games, but I think youneed more than that.

“You need to be consistent, you need to be dedicated and you need to be up for every game.

“The autumn is going to be tough, Fiji, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand back-to-back will test everyone to the limit physically and mentally.”
