Cranleigh Lawn Tennis and Social Club; a small, community tennis club tucked away at the back of Merton Park, has recently been awarded three prestigious awards by the LTA, Aegon British Tennis Awards in recognition of the club’s place in the community and the tireless work put in by the club’s coaches and volunteers.

Last week head coach Grant Fellows was delighted to be named London and South East Coach of the Year for 2016, marking a fantastic double success for the 34-year-old after being awarded the Surrey Tennis Coach of the Year award in November.

He is now on the shortlist for the national Aegon Coach of the Year award.

Grant said, ''I absolutely love my job but it is hard work organising a thriving coaching programme year round. We provide coaching for all resulting in increased tennis participation so it's great to receive the recognition from the LTA'.

The club was also thrilled to hear its chair Christine Roe won Volunteer of the Year for 2016. She said: “I was delighted to receive this award. I have loved tennis all my life and was happy to give something back by volunteering at Cranleigh.”

The awards celebrate the efforts the local community club goes to ensure a spirit of inclusiveness and friendly participation.

Grant and Christine work tirelessly to promote the sport to the young, disabled and those that think tennis is ‘not for them’, along with maintaining a club that plays an excellent standard of tennis in all leagues.

Cranleigh Tennis Club is holding their next open day over the weekend of May 13th and 14th. All are welcome. Visit the website www.cranleightennis.co.uk for more information or email info@limitlesstennis.co.uk
