Merton Council is well prepared to deal with icy roads in the coming months with its store of 2,400 tonnes of salt and fleet of five gritting vehicles at the ready.

Residents can rest assured that the council will be keeping the borough’s priority routes clear of snow and ice this autumn and winter.

Our road maintenance staff grit roads and pavements around town centres, schools, train stations and local shops, as well as clearing accumulated ice and snow.

We have a winter maintenance duty officer on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to make decisions on gritting activity based on Met Office forecasts.

Councillor Martin Whelton, cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, said: “Our team will be available around the clock which will include our gritting team regularly monitoring Met Office forecasts to ensure the safety of vehicle users and pedestrians.”
