The daughter of a brave taxi driver who was viciously attacked by three callous teenagers last weekend has called for young offenders to be sent to boot camps.

The 57-year-old driver from Norbury was sent to an address in Downton Avenue, Streatham, at about 10.30pm on Saturday night after his taxi company received a call requesting a car.

When he arrived, three black youths, all thought to be about 18-years-old, were waiting outside the house. They told him they needed to put some cases in his boot and then savagely kicked him to the ground as he opened it up.

They kicked him in the head three times and punched him as they tried to steal his car keys, eventually making off with the vehicle's satellite navigation system in the direction of Streatham Hill.

"My dad has injured his head and his pride has been shaken," said his 25-year-old daughter Andrea. "But he'll go back to work because he won't let the youths win.

"He's such a hard-working kind man who would do anything to help anyone.

"If the youths had a knife or gun on them then my dad could have been killed. I don't want him to become another statistic."

Andrea, who asked to keep her family's surname private, thinks more needs to be done to teach young people about respect, discipline and hard work and is backing a petition to urge the Government to create a boot camp system to deal with young offenders.

"These crimes have got to stop," said Andrea. "Young people need role models and as a community we need to stop these things from happening.

"It's not fair that innocent people are preyed on by dysfunctional parts of society."

Detective Inspector Andy McDonald from Streatham police confirmed the attack had taken place but said there had not been any similar incidents in the area.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
