Youngster heads to Hogwarts to star in next Potter film
Katie Head will begin filming for The Half Blood Prince in September.
Katie Head will begin filming for The Half Blood Prince in September.

The great, great niece of famous Shakespearean actor Dame Ellen Terry is carrying on the family tradition after being chosen to star in the next Harry Potter film.

Katie Head, 11, from Belmont Road in Sutton, beat 250 other Hogwarts hopefuls and will begin filming for The Half Blood Prince on September 24.

The youngster was thrilled to be picked and plans to nab lead star Daniel Radcliffe's autograph.

"If I see him, I will run up to him and ask for his signature," she said. "But maybe not on the first day.

"My real idol is Hermione so I'd like to see her, but there will be thousands of people there so I will have to look very hard."

Katie landed the part after auditioning at Ravenscourt Theatre School Agency in London during half term.

But the humble young star said it was her conversation rather than her acting skills that got her in.

"There were about 250 people there, and in the end they chose 24," she added. "But I think the lady chose me because I was talking to her about Primark."

Before stepping on to the million pound set Katie - a pupil from Woodmansterne Primary School, Banstead - is concentrating on her lead role as Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream for the school play next week.

A role Dame Terry played in 1863 at the Theatre Royal in Bath, before going on to star with Laurence Olivier and becoming a Dame in 1925.

Her mother Janet, 45, said the family was very proud of her and that the school had been very supportive.

She added: "We don't know exactly what her role will be yet, but It's going to be something that she will remember for the rest of her life. To say you were in a Harry Potter film, even in a small way, is great.

"I am thrilled, and I think it's quite funny that she starts at her senior school, Overton Grange in September, and now at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as well."

It says she is starring then it can't be an extra? Or am I just confused

she could perhaps be playing either Crabbe or Goyle when they have taken the polyjuice potion and are standing guard for Malfoy

Hi all, thanks for your comments. We really don't Know for sure yet what katie will be doing in Harry Potter. Because when we she went for the audition we were not told what it was for.
But it may just be an extra but even it it is Katie's still over the moon to be involved!!
She does bare a strong resemblence to the young Hermione!!!

Katie is quite the little star. The 3rd in the kids that were all involved in the world of entertainment in some way.. Really proud of you Kate's.. Of course you can star in a film even if you are an extra. Smelly comments such as the first one here can only be typed from the jealous kind... Katie has the wizardistic gift, whether it's a puzzle on broken sword or making magic fairy potions from the food in the cupboards at home, she rocks, big up..! Love Big bro Joe...

Congratulations, to Katie from the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennesse, USA. I'm sure no matter how big or small your part you will do a great job. Seems you have good family support and you are very pretty. Keep reaching for your dreams and go far. I'll watch for you in the new movie next year. Good Luck, and have fun.

You are doing exactly what I wish I could do, and I am currently trying my best to be an extra in film 6 or 7. I really hope you enjoy whatever you do in the film, and I will watch out for you in the movies! Good luck and well done :)
