A man in his 70s has died after suffering a heart attack at the scene of a road accident in Colliers Wood.

London Ambulance Service sent a fast response car and an ambulance to the scene of the accident on Tooting High Road at 6.30am.

The crew tried to resuscitate the man both at the scene and on route to St George's Hospital, Tooting but he was pronounced dead at 9.03am.

The driver of a Honda Civic, believed to be in his 20s, was treated for shock but did not require hospital treatment.

The accident caused severe congestion in rush hour with delays occurring on the A24 Tooting High Street in both directions between Blackshaw Road, Longley Road and Colwood Gardens. Police directed traffic in the area.
