A failing nursery in Raynes Park is to close its doors for the last time next month.

The Raynes Park Day Nursery, based in the David Lloyd Club in Bushey Road, will close on Thursday, April 17.

One parent who asked not to be named said the nursery had been a shambles for a while, was disorganised and lacked consistent management.

A spokesperson for the Raynes Park Nursery, run by asquith day nurseries and pre-schools, confirmed it was closing due to falling numbers of children attending and concerns that the nursery was not achieving consistently high standards.

The parent said: "Trying to find another nursery to take a child full time will be a headache for people.

"In the last nine months they have not had a dedicated manager, there’s no filing system and they ran open days with a list of things that would be going to happen but there wasn’t anything going on.

"Staff were very nice and I felt reassured leaving my son there but they never got to grips with managing the place."

The parent said at least three different managers had been appointed and left in the last few months, with the most recent, Aki Ahmade, starting several weeks ago.

The nursery spokesperson said: "It is disappointing that after more than a decade at the heart of the local community we have had to take the very difficult decision to close Raynes Park Nursery.

"We have invited parents to take up places for their children at our five other local nurseries within our group, which are within a six mile radius.

"It is important to stress that, at all times, the welfare and safety of children in our care is our number one priority and at no time has this been compromised."

The last Ofsted report in 2011 rated the nursery as satisfactory, and stated a maximum of 47 children can attend at any one time.

At the time, 67 children were enrolled on the books in the early years age group.
