Children in foster care and their carers enjoyed football last month thanks to Merton Council’s fostering team.
A day out was arranged by the team for children in partnership with AFC Wimbledon who donated tickets for a League Two match against Rochdale at AFC Wimbledon’s Kingsmeadow Stadium.
Richard, a Merton foster carer, said: "The children were treated to a visit from Haydon the Womble and received signed programmes plus a special Wimbledon badge to remember the day and, of course, half time food.
"My wife and I mostly foster young babies, so the match wasn't suitable for them.
"However, it was great to be able to take my two daughters along for the fun.
"My girls really loved it and it was great to tell them that this was AFC Wimbledon and Merton rewarding them for all the years they've shared their home, and parents, with foster children."
Councillor Maxi Martin, cabinet member for children’s services said: "Merton is lucky to have foster carers of the highest quality, and this event is a token of our appreciation."
