Residents will have their chance to air their views to top bosses on their plans to close vital services at St Helier Hospital.

MP for Mitcham and Morden, Siobhain McDonagh, will be hosting a coffee morning next month which will be attended by Rachel Tyndall, NHS Director of Strategy and Performance, who is responsible for managing the consultation on whether to push forward with plans to close the hospital’s accident and emergency and maternity unit.

In a letter announcing the meeting Ms McDonagh said: "The more I find out about their plans to close services at St Helier, the more disastrous it is. It will reduce health services and cost more."

She added: "This will be the most important ninety minutes we will spend on supporting services that are needed by our families, neighbours and community."

The public meeting will be held at the Emmanuel Church Hall on Dudley Drive in Morden on Saturday, November 10, from 10.30 to 12pm.

UPDATE - Thursday, October 5: BSBV have since said Rachel Tyndall will not be attending the meeting.

An as yet unconfirmed clinicinan involved in the consultation is instead likely to attend.
