A competition crazy mum who even won her wedding dress in a prize-draw enjoyed a 99-second trolley dash to mark the opening of a new discount store.

Sandra Pollard, 45, won a competition to be the 'VIP- Very Important Pennysaver,' who officially opened the new 99p store in Crown Hill.

The mum-of-one, who enters about 30 competitions a week, wrote 99 characters on why she loves a bargain, beating 50 entrants to the prize, after reading about the competition in the Croydon Guardian.

On Friday January 27, Miss Pollard, who came prepared wearing trainers and gloves for a good grip, had 99 seconds to run around the new store and bag herself a bargain.

The Croydon Council customer service advisor managed to grab 106 items, and filled her trolley with a range of household goods including hand soap, bleach, chocolate and soft drinks.

She said: "I wanted to get chocolate but then I just thought let me get some of everything.

"I know it's sad but I'm pleased about the household stuff, body wash, bleach and hand wash are things we always run out of."

Miss Pollard is no stranger to winning competitions and past prizes include an all expenses paid trip to a Sandals resort in Jamaica, cinema and theatre tickets and a designer bag worth over £200.

Despite recently winning a designer wedding dress for her wedding in Barbados in August, she says the trolley dash was one of her favourite prizes.

She said: "This was one of the most enjoyable prize I've won and it was one of the most satisfying. I really enjoyed it.

"With competitions you have to be in it to win it, and I'm proof of that. Anyone who thinks they can't win should just apply."
