The cost of a sign warning pedestrians to keep off a miniscule patch of grass has been revealed.
Merton Council was attacked by residents and pressure groups last month for wasting money on the warning over an area less than 1m sq in Elm Walk, Raynes Park – and the authority has now revealed the sign cost taxpayers £237.98.
The figure was published yesterday after an inquiry under the Freedom of Information Act about the sign in Elm Walk, which was put up in 2008.
The council said the sign was aimed at stopping “indiscriminate parking” that damaged the street scene.
