An Ashes-winning cricketer visited a Wandsworth primary school to teach kids the importance of good sportsmanship as part of a national campaign.

England and Surrey fast bowler Chris Tremlett went to Battersea's Honeywell Primary School on July 5 to have a chat with pupils as part of the Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine campaign to educate children through cricket.

Tremlett spoke at an interactive assembly with 200 pupils about how sport is not just about the winning but also about being gracious and respectful towards your opponents.

After the assembly, Year 5 pupils were taken out to the playground for a cricket coaching session with the England international.

Tremlett said: "It was a great day and nice to be back at school, get involved and see the smiles on everyone’s faces. It always brings back good memories.

"Sport’s not just about winning. You obviously always want to win, but it’s also about learning fair play, respecting your team mates and enjoying it.

"It was good to see the kids shaking hands with each other after the assembly and match, so hopefully they’ve come away learning something today."

Honeywell Primary’s P.E. coordinator Paul Warbis was delighted with the visit.

He said: "It’s been really good today and the children have enjoyed themselves. It’s great to have someone like Chris Tremlett come down and really inspire them and tell the message about playing hard.

"I think it’s very important for children to learn how to win and lose in the right way at an early age and events like this help reinforce what we’re teaching in school."
