A plan to relocate Mitcham fire station is set to go ahead after the Government signed off £57m of funding.
This week a spokesman for the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the private finance initiative, to fund the rebuilding Mitcham and eight other London stations, had been confirmed by the department of communities and local government.
The location of the new centre, which will replace the current station in Lower Green West, has not been officially confirmed.
But last year Merton Council said the new building was set to be on London Road.
An LFB spokesman said: "This project is about improving our service for Merton.
"The new fire station at Mitcham will benefit the local area by providing a fire station with better training facilities for firefighters as well as community facilities which will allow people to visit and support our drive to reduce the number of accidental fire deaths and injuries in the home."
