A 22-year-old man was shot at a house in Raynes Park in the early hours of this morning (July 16).
Police and the ambulance service were called out to Farnham Gardens and found the man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious, but not life-threatening, condition.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw two black men leaving the scene in a car shortly after the incident.
Officers from operation Trident are investigating.
Residents of the Carters Estate have expressed their shock at the shotting.
Michel Ditraoult, 37, has lived on the single and double storey estate since 1972.
He said residents suspected drug dealers had moved in to the estate but: "I can't believe this could have happened here."
"This area is perfectly safe. I wouldn't expect somebody to be shot here.
"We've got a lot of children on the estate."
Police have distributed leaflets in the area, urging estate residents along to two public meetings at the Farnham Gardens meeting cabin.
Police will be available at the meeting room from 11am to 2pm tomorrow and again on Saturday from 3pm to 6pm.
Anyone with information is asked to call Trident on 0208 785 8580 or Crimestoppers, where callers can remain anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
