School pupils got up close to a collection of creatures last week - all in the name of science.
A snake, reptiles and a tarantula visited Wimbledon High School to mark Darwin Day, a celebration of the father of evolutionary science Charles Darwin.
A day of lessons at the Mansel Road junior school, including art, science and English, were themed on the great thinker’s ideas.
Guests at the school included a geneticist who discussed the theory of evolution, while an artist helped pupils recreate some animal habitats and a local wildlife expert brought in some exotic creatures for the pupils to handle.
Last month a group of 48 pupils visited Down House in Kent, Darwin’s home, to learn more about him.
