Cushy cell for monster Rosemary West

Britain's worst murderess, Rosemary West, is serving out her sentence in a comfortable single cell in Ashford, surrounded by creature comforts.

West was sentenced to life for 10 horrific killings, including the death of her own daughter, but according to the Daily Mirror, "her wing is the cushiest at the jail, and possibly throughout the entire UK prison system".

West's cell in Bronzefield Prison's Bravo wing includes a television, DVD, stereo and books while the walls are covered with pictures of cats.

The conditions contrast with the grim, bleak women's wing at the Victorian-era Durham Prison where West had been held until moved to Bronzefield when it opened in 2004.

According to the Prison Service, HMP Bronzefield is a modern purpose built prison for women that opened in June 2004.

Along with West and other lifers, it performs as a local prison, accepting prisoners direct from the courts and is run by Kalyx, formerly known as United Kingdom Detention Services.

It has capacity for 450 prisoners, including space for 12 mothers with babies.

Accommodation is provided in three blocks with mostly single cells.

A Kalyx spokesman said the company did not comment on individual prisoners or security issues.
