Wandsworth teens deny student murder

12:25pm Tuesday 22nd January 2008

Two Wandsworth teens appeared at the Old Bailey to deny murdering a 21-year-old student.

Robel Tewelde was shot dead on October 2 last year just days before he was set to start university.

He was gunned down in Jephson Court, Studley Road, Stockwell.

Mr Tewelde, of Surridge Court, was shot three times in the back and suffered injuries to his liver, lung and heart.

He was found dead by police after reports that shots had been fired just before midnight.

Ngozi Edwards, 18, and a 17-year-old male - who cannot be named for legal reasons - both denied murder.

The 17-year-old also denied possession of a firearm.

Both teenagers answered to their names and confirmed pleas of not guilty during the short hearing.

Judge Gerald Gordon QC set a trial date for June 16 this year.

Edwards, 18, of Hemans Road, Nine Elms, and the youth, of Clapham, were remanded in custody.
