A pregnant woman who thought she had gone into labour spent an hour stuck in her car as traffic was gridlocked around Egham.
The woman, who was travelling with her other children, started experiencing pains like contractions after becoming stuck in a queue of traffic near Stroude Road, where a foot and mouth outbreak has been confirmed.
The woman's mum was called and a car eventually reached her to take her to hospital for a check-up.
A three-mile exclusion zone has been set up around the affected site and cattle are to be culled.
This follows an assessment of clinical symptoms by animal health veterinary staff.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
