A Wimbledon man who won a luxury poker holiday following a £2 online tournament has continued his hot streak.

Chris Hopgood's journey all started when he was allocated a horse in a Cheltenham Gold Cup sweepstake as part of the PokerStars Big Race online tournament.

Mr Hopgood's horse took home the title and as a result he won entry into a 'main event' tournament in Marbella.

He missed out on a cash-winning position in the Main Event but his new-found confidence convinced him to have another go. He entered himself into one of the other poker tournaments, the Marbella Cup Event.

This time around he made it to the final table, eventually finishing 9th out of more than 1000 players, earning himself a cool £3600.

He put his success down to the coaching he received from poker professionals Jake Cody and Fatima De Melo.

"With the coaching from Jake and Fatima I learned a lot in terms of preparation for these type of events, what I should be doing before such a huge event, during and after,” he said.

“A great help and something I definitely took with me through the week and beyond.

“The sheer size of the tournaments was a slight shock.

"To see the amount of people that enter these festivals over the various flights and events was staggering and I was so happy to be a part of it.”
