A man has been left in critical condition following an assault in Morden town centre.

Police were called at 10.17pm last night (April19) after staff from the London Ambulance Service suspected that a collapsed man in London Road had been assaulted.

A spokesman for police said they do not believe the victim had been shot or stabbed.

Ravensbury ward independent candidate Mark Gale snapped some pictures of the police cordon up around the area as forensics work at the scene.

"The man - aged in his 30s - was taken by LAS to hospital. His condition is critical; we await a further assessment," the spokesman said.

"Urgent enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances, including the nature of any assault.

"There has been no arrest at this early stage."

As of 11am this morning, the site of the assault as still cordoned off by police.
