Plans have been unveiled to refurbish and extend a stretch of Wimbledon Hill Road with new shops and a 94 bedroom hotel.

A public exhibition last week (January 11) revealed the details of proposals for the ‘Bank Buildings’ at 41-47 Wimbledon Hill Road in the town centre.

Developers Walhill Limited want to refurbish and extend the building to deliver a "mixed-use scheme" comprising retail at ground floor and hotel use throughout the rest of the development.

The hotel will be accessed from Alwyne Road and developers are talking to hotel operators and hope to secure an agreement for a 4-star rating hotel.

The ground floor buildings are currently occupied by a number of businesses which include Ernle Estates and Ludlow Thompson estates agents.

A spokesman of Walhill Limited, Paul Dimoldenberg said: "There has been a great deal of interest and support from many local residents and local businesses and we are very encouraged by the response so far."

Around 125 people attended the exhibition, which the developers held to give residents and businesses the opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback to the project team before submitting a planning application in a month's time.

The exhibition was held at the Wimbledon Library, Exhibition Room 1, Wimbledon Hill Road from 2pm till 8pm.

The proposed development is to be car free with the hotel's reception being accessed via a lift.
