In 2016 a study by the Education Policy Institute showed Merton Council's maintained schools in the top 3 of performing Local Authorities and Academy Trusts in England,   the 2017 provisional Progress 8 results this puts the borough’s secondary schools as the best performing in the country. Progress 8 scores, published by the Department for Education, show how much progress pupils make between the end of Key Stage 2 (end of primary school) and the end of Key Stage 4 (GCSEs). Merton is very proud of its achievement. However to deal with the ever-growing numbers of higher pupil numbers Merton has announcement plans to open a new secondary school,Harris Wimbledon Academy the new school is planned 1,050 new places: 900 places for 11–16 year olds and 250 sixth form places. The new school is said completed by summer 2020.But the school will open on September 2018 at a temporary site in Whatley Avenue (SW20).

Merton says the new school-Bringing a new school to Merton will benefit a lot of families and young people from 2018 and for generations to come.

what do the locals thinks:

I think this is great Merton desperately needs more secondary places- Fiaza Ahmed

I think it's a good idea but there's been too much secrecy about it so we (the locals)didn't get a say in it.-mahnoor Ahmed

I didn't known about the new school we already have 2 harris acemdies I also feel the the location isn't good as most of the secondary schools in merton are in Wimbledon. The school should be in mictham where the demands for places are higher.-Katy gate

As you can see the feelings for this are mixed I get the feeling that most of the locals understand the need for the new school and have ill feelings about the school due the way Merton council represented it all the secrecy about it has left the locals isolated .
