Merton Police have completed their mission of wrapping up 804 donated Christmas presents for children in foster homes or in care in the borough as part of the Met’s Police Christmas Appeal.

But they had one final mission which was out of the Merton borough.

They visited Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust at Queen Mary’s Children hospital on November 20, with trolleys loaded to give the last donations to children in the hospital.

In a post on Facebook, they said: “We met children of different ages who may be in over the festive period, leaving the last donations to be sorted amongst them.

“Due to the amazing generosity of Merton residents we were able to bring a gift to every single child in the care of Merton Council with the extra presents going to the children’s wards.”

An HMV worker, Wilko Wimbledon and Boots Centre Court Shopping Centre were all thanked for their help.

Merton Police said: “We’d also like to thank the Foster carers who make space in their homes and hearts for children who need a family.

“Our heartfelt thanks to you, our residents, who saved Christmas. The community spirit lives on in our fair borough.

“Merry Christmas all.”
