For those people who love both running AND boozing, the perfect event is coming to Wimbledon in the New Year.

The Craft Half will race through Wimbledon Common on February 4 with half pints of beer given to runners at fuelling stations every two miles on the half marathon trail run.

It is being organised by charity Street Child and will raise money for its projects in West Africa.

Participants can celebrate crossing the finish line with the ultimate ‘Half-ter’ Party - with the charity hosting live music, sizzling Street Food and craft ale.

Street Child's challenge co-ordinator Lucy James said: “The Craft Half is pure Street Child, exciting, slightly different and guaranteed to make a huge impact.”

The event launched alongside Street Childs’ Right To Learn appeal will see money raised matched pound for pound by the UK Government through UK Aid Match.

Runners are asked to fundraise a minimum of £150 which will support the charity’s projects in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria helping some of the most vulnerable children to go to school and learn.

The Craft Half follows Street Child’s award-winning Sierra Leone Marathon.

Lucy James said: “We’ve created an impressive legacy through our Sierra Leone Marathon, now it’s time to get people involved a little closer to home and run for fun, for change and for thousands of children in West Africa who will be supported by runners’ fundraising.”

Founder and CEO of Street Child, Tom Dannatt said: “The Craft Half is a huge opportunity to continue to make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable children in West Africa.”

The Craft Half will take place on 4th February at Wimbledon Common, race entry is £25 and participants are required to fundraise a minimum of £150 towards Street Child’s projects.

Runners can also opt for the less intense 10K option.
