A Rio Olympic Gold medallist and a team of international hockey players from Wimbledon Hockey Club have visited a school to launch a new schools' outreach programme.

Crista Cullen MBE visited St Teresa’s primary school in Morden to launch Quick Start Hockey.

Crista Cullen said: " In the build up to the Rio Olympics, we met to decide what our Great Britain team wanted to be remembered for and we agreed we wanted to inspire the next generation. 

"Therefore it is a privilege to be an ambassador for Quick Start Hockey who have excactly that aim to inspire our children to be more active." 

Quick Start Hockey is inspiring more children to get involved in sport by providing free and subsidised hockey coaching to local boys and girls who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to play.

Head Teacher at St Teresa's Primary School, Justin Dachtler said: "I think the work that the coaches and players from Wimbledon Hockey Club are doing with schools is an outstanding model of partnership."

Nine Merton Borough state primary schools and over 2,000 children have already attended assemblies and tried out taster sessions with eighteen primary schools hoping to sign up.

Ambassador for Quick Start Hockey, Phil Roper was attendance as well as  a host of male and female international players from around the globe including star players from Australia, Africa and the USA.
