It’s been a vibrant fortnight in Wimbledon, from Clarendon Fine Art opening in Wimbledon Village to the Mayor of Merton celebrating her birthday whilst raising over £2,000 for her chosen charities; Merton Mencap and Commonside Community Development Trust.

The Clarendon launch party was a huge success, bringing celebrities such as Big Brother 2016 winner Jason Burrell and hip-hop artists Lord TCO and Twin MCs to celebrate the gallery’s opening with The Eyes Of Lady Wimbledon bloggers.

The next day was an equally fun event at The Hub in Morden as guests of the Mayor of Merton embraced the 1970’s disco theme with relish. The dancing went on until the small hours of the morning and the Dancing Queen was the Mayor herself.

Filming also commenced that weekend and I was privileged to direct the Centre Court Christmas advert released this week. The campaign gives the public the opportunity to share their Centre Court Star for a chance to win a range of prizes including a holiday in Singapore with Flight Centre.

The week ended with the borough commemorating the veterans on Remembrance Day, and I was honoured to meet a hero of mine, Nicky Winter, whose sobriety has led a passion to give a voice to the Merton Veterans who may still be struggling with addiction, triggered by their time in service. We filmed a short documentary to show how CDARS, the local drug addiction centre, can support veterans who may be suffering in silence.

Overall it was a great week for Merton as the Hand in Hand on Wimbledon Common won London’s Dog-Friendly Pub Award and we congratulate Wimbledon Brewery for winning two awards at the Quality Food Awards for their Gold and Copper Leaf lager. Hooray for Merton.
