Richmond Council is asking residents and local businesses for their views on fly-tipping as part of an education and enforcement initiative.
It already dedicates time and money to the issue with its enforcement officers issuing fines to people caught fly-tipping or pursing prosecutions against them.
The council hopes the survey will help them understand what residents consider to be fly-tipping and the main barriers that discourage them from disposing of their unwanted items legally.
Cllr Pamela Fleming, Cabinet Member for Environment, Business and Community said: “Every year the council spends large sums of money cleaning up illegally dumped rubbish which would be better invested in local services.
“This survey will help the Council learn more about how local people perceive this issue, its impacts and what they consider to be the root causes.”
The Consultation will run from Friday September 29 to November 10.
