Details of the latest proposal to redevelop an old industrial site in Raynes Park have emerged.

The landowner will build offices and homes on the old factory site in Kingston Road. The site has been at the heart of several debates in Merton Council's planning committee after previous applications for the Dundonald ward development were rejected.

Access Self Storage, who have put forward the latest application, was refused permission to build a five-storey self storage unit in 2009.

Planning documents say the company is now proposing to build 103 homes and office space to accommodate 110 jobs after the existing buildings are demolished.

Developers also plan to put 34 parking spaces onto the site, 11 of which will be disabled bays. There will also be parking spaces for 193 bicycles.

Councillor David Dean said: "Dundonald councillors have been working with residents and the applicant for a number of years. We have not been entirely happy with any proposals to date but this seems to be getting traction with council officers.

"We will continue to work hard to ensure residents get what is required for the local area.

"Too often, developers do the right thing for themselves. There is a huge amount of flooding and we have to ensure this will not exacerbate that. The council also have a job to protect employment land.

"I will be keeping in contact with the applicant and continue the conversation with residents."

Cllr Dean sits on the planning committee, but will not vote on the application because of representations he made against previous proposals.

A spokesperson for Access Self storage said, “We carried out local community consultation and held a public meeting on these proposals.

"We were pleased to receive a lot of positive feedback from residents and businesses who felt that the mixed-use regeneration of the site was timely.

"As can be seen from the computer-generated images, we were careful to come up with a scheme that is high quality and sympathetic to area. Once developed, we feel that the proposals will be a very attractive enhancement to the locality, bringing excellence in design to a vacant site.”

Comments on the application (which can be found on the planning portal as 17/P2529) are being taken until September 6.
