More than 100,000 cyclists will ride a total of more than 3 million miles as part of a three-day cycling festival this weekend.

Cyclists from elite teams will be joined by thousands of amateur riders as they take to the streets of London and Surrey as the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey gets underway today (Friday, July 28).

Cycling fans and spectators are invited to soak up a festival atmosphere for the 100-mile RideLondon-Surrey 100  on Sunday with a DJ, street entertainers and rides along the route.

Roads will be closed in central London on Saturday, July 29 and in London and Surrey on Sunday, July 30, and residents are advised to plan their travel in advance.

Today's action sees two handcycle races for injured verteran servicemen and women, and an elite race for top international handcyclists, as well as cycle and BMX races for riders under 16.

Tomorrow's event, meanwhile, offers the chance for riders of all ages and abilities to enjoy a traffic-free route through central London, passing some of the capital's most iconic landmarks.

Also on Saturday, World Tour cyclists from the best cycling teams will compete in the women's Classique race and the Brompton World Championship  - an eight-lap dash around St James' Park.

On Sunday (July 30), an estimated 25,000 cyclists will take part in the RideLondon-Surrey 100 from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, through London and Surrey roads, before returning to the capital to finish on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.
