The summer holidays are finally here, so the Wimbledon Guardian has looked up some of the best ways to keep you and your little ones entertained over the six week stretch.

1. Polka Theatre

Polka is one of the few theatres in the UK dedicated exclusively to children and is based in Wimbledon town centre.

Tickets for The Borrowers (June 16 to August 20) and Hatch (July 7 to August 27) are available online here.

2. New Wimbledon Theatre

Also on Wimbledon Broadway, New Wimbledon Theatre quietens down over the summer months but tickets are available to see a 40-strong cast of the borough's brightest young performers in Bugsy Malone and for X Factor lovers, Joe McElderry stars in a Saturday Night At The Movies Live! performance on August 26. 3. RideLondon Street Party

Love Wimbledon is hosting its annual street party to celebrate cyclists from RideLondon whizzing through Wimbledon on Sunday July 30.

This year also features a 'Rollapaluza' and other bike activities from Virgin Active for both children and adults to enjoy. There will also be live music, face-painting, balloon modelling, food and deck chairs to relax in.

4. Wimbledon market

Wimbledon Piazza's monthly market will take place on August 5 and 6 until 6pm, outside Morrisons.

5. Eddie Catz

The soft play centre is opposite Merton Abbey Mills and the Sainsbury’s Savacentre in South Wimbledon.

The centre is holding special events for the little ones over summer including laser tag shootouts and arts and crafts workshops. More information can be found on their website here.

6. Colour House Theatre 

The theatre company in Watermill Way is putting on a production of the classic story of The Velveteen Rabbit on July 26 and August 1. Tickets are available online here.

7. Sushi classes

Want to learn how to make sushi? No? Want your children to learn how to make sushi so you don't have to? Sticks 'n' Sushi in Wimbledon are holding a children's masterclass in sushi rolls and nigiri. They'll even get to take away the treats, and a goody bag, at the end of the session.

The classes take place every first Saturday of the month, the next session is on August 5.

8. Wimbledon Common

As well as having the wonderful common for your children to run around and use up all that pent-up energy, the Common is also holding its own treasure hunt in August.

Turn up at the Ranger's Office to take part from August 7 to 11. More information about Wimbledon and Putney Common events can be found here.

9. Merton Libraries

The libraries hold a reading challenge every summer for children (this years theme is 'Animal Agents) but also host a whole range of activities, including drama workshops and book clubs.

Visit Pollards Hill Library on August 3 for The Borrowers workshop - where attendance will get you free tickets to see the show at Polka Theatre.

10. Deen City Farm

Open from 10am to 4.30pm every day (except Mondays) the farm provides interactive experiences to children, from owning their own pony for a day, to being a young farmer and learning how to keep the yard running.  More information is available here.

11. Merton's award-winning parks

Five of Merton's parks have been awarded Green Flag status, only awarded when a space achieves a national benchmark of high standards.

The five parks are South Park Gardens, John Innes Park, Dundonald Recreation Ground, Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Field and Colliers Wood Recreation Ground.
