Merton's parks are some of the best, with five achieving the coveted "Green Flag" award.

South Park Gardens, John Innes Park, Dundonald Recreation Ground, Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Field and Colliers Wood Recreation Ground all met the national standards for high quality green spaces.

The international award, now into its third decade, celebrates green spaces that meet high environmental standards, are well maintained and have excellent visitor facilities. UK parks achieved a record breaking number of Green Flag awards this year.

Cllr Stephen Alambritis, Leader of Merton Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive Green Flag Awards for these parks and recreation grounds.

“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining them to such a high standard.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd added: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme.

“Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
