A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a 63-year-old woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Police previously said the 20-year-old had been bailed until early August.
The woman was found dead at an address in Edgehill Road, Mitcham on Thursday, July 6. Officers were called at 10.43pm, and say the victim sustained head injuries. The victim and suspect were known to each other, police stated.
Neighbours say a woman in the street repeatedly screamed “murder” after discovering the woman's body.
The man was arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder and was taken to a south London police station where he was detained. He continues to be detained under the Mental Health Act.
The law allows suspects to be admitted, detained and treated in hospital against their wishes.
